Check-ins

Tap the ring on a habit to check in; tap again to undo. Touch and hold the ring for the two-minute version, rest, low energy or travel. For a habit you want less of, tap the square to log a clear day, or tap Log to enter the amount. To change a past day, open the habit and tap the day in its calendar.

Habits

Tap Habits on Today to reorder, pause or archive habits. The + button adds a habit: type a name or pick a suggestion, and tap More options for the full form. Today, Reflect and Settings are the three tabs. In the full form you can start a new habit after another habit you already do, and choose the day it starts. To step away, add time off in Settings: for all your habits or only the ones you choose, with a reason (Vacation, Low energy or Other).

When does a day end?

At 3:00 by default, so a late night still counts for the day it started. Change it in Settings > Day ends at.

Widgets

Touch and hold the Home Screen, tap Edit > Add Widget and search for Mostly Daily. Tap the ring (or the square, for a habit you want less of) on a widget to check in: it fills right away, without opening the app. When every habit is done, the Next up widget shows your mosaic. Widgets move to the new day on their own when your day ends.

Premium’s This week widget shows the habits that are due, a Limit habit or done today. To choose the habits yourself, touch and hold the widget, tap Edit Widget and tap Habits: pick up to 3 for the medium widget or 7 for the large one. They stay in the order you picked, every day, even on a day a habit is not due. Remove them all to go back to the automatic list.

For the Lock Screen, touch and hold it, tap Customize and add Mostly Daily. For Control Center, open it, tap + and add Check in or Clear day. If a widget ever looks out of date, open the app once.

Reminders

Each habit can have a reminder time (Premium: two, and Today can suggest a better time). Settings > Reminders gives the overview. A “Close the day” reminder in the evening, on by default, lets you finish what is still open with one tap each. You get at most two reminders a day. If a habit's reminders are ignored three times in a row, they pause until you check in again.

Apple Health

When you create a habit that can use Apple Health (steps, exercise, mindful minutes, sleep, stand hours, water, workouts, drinks), “Use Apple Health” is on; the system asks once when you save. Check-ins that come from Health stay on this phone. Settings > Apple Health lists what is read and saved; manage access in the Health app > Sharing > Apps > Mostly Daily.

iCloud

Habits, the check-ins you make yourself and time off sync through your private iCloud. Check-ins from Apple Health and drink logs stay on each phone; a second phone fills those days from its own Apple Health. Drink and cigarette logs never sync. The logs of other Limit habits stay on the phone unless you turn on “Sync logs through iCloud” in that habit’s settings (it is off by default). The reason you give for time off stays on the phone. The reason you add to a Limit log stays with that log, on the phone or, if you turned on sync for that habit, in your private iCloud.

How the levels work

Settings > About > How Mostly works explains the levels, never missing twice and rest days in the app's own words.

Premium

Restore purchases on the Premium sheet (Settings > Mostly Daily Premium). Manage or cancel a subscription in your iPhone's Settings: tap your name (your Apple Account), then Subscriptions. During a free trial you can still choose Monthly or Lifetime from Other plans on the Premium sheet; Monthly starts when the trial ends, and nothing is charged before then. When Premium ends, habits beyond the Free plan are paused with all their history; nothing is deleted.

Export and delete

Settings > Export and import saves your habits, check-ins, time off and reviews as CSV files, on any plan. Settings > Delete all data removes everything from the app and your iCloud.

Questions

What are habit steps?

A Build habit can start with its two-minute version and grow a step at a time. When a step has felt routine for a few weeks, the app offers the next one. Nothing changes by itself, you can go back a step anytime, and past days keep their credit. Free includes one next step at a time; Premium lets you plan up to 4 steps ahead.

What is a Limit habit?

A habit you want less of, like drinks, sugar or screen time. You log the amount in the evening and get a colour calendar of clear, lighter and heavier days, with a goal of clear days per week. When you log an amount you can add one optional word for what it was about, like Social or Unwinding; the habit then shows how often each came up, with no advice.

Is my data private?

Yes. No server, no analytics, no tracking. Check-ins from Apple Health and the drinks you log stay on your phone and are never put in iCloud.

What are themes?

Five looks for the app and its widgets: Graphite, Midnight, Ocean, Plum and Glacier. A theme changes the background, cards, buttons and tint, never your habit colours. Graphite is included and the other four are part of Premium. If Premium ends, the app uses Graphite and your choice comes back with Premium.

What are seasonal challenges?

Short, optional challenges with a finish line, like Clearer January. You join with a habit you already have or a new one, and the goal is most days, never every day. Rest and time-off days never count against you, and leaving keeps the habit and its history. The season's challenge is free to join from 7 days before its month until the 14th. Premium adds a library of 10 challenges you can start any time, each for 28 days. If Premium ends, a running challenge runs to its end and finished ones stay readable.

What is the quarterly identity review?

At the start of each quarter, Reflect asks whether each identity (a reader, someone who moves) is still who you want to become: Keep, Adjust or Let go, plus an optional one-line note. Letting go archives its habits and keeps all their history. The review of the quarter just ended is free. Opening past reviews is Premium, but your notes always stay readable.
